In Turkey, measures will be taken to organize the collection of plastic and glass bottles in order to protect the environment, Minister of the Environment and Urban Planning of Turkey Murat Kurum, Trend reports via Turkish media.
The minister noted that Turkish citizens will be encouraged to hand over glass and plastic bottles.
Citizens involved in the recycling of plastic and glass bottles will be provided with benefits while using mobile operators' services and public transport, the minister added.
The minister also noted that the system will be applied from 2021.
Murat Kurum had earlier said that from 2019, plastic bags in Turkey would be paid. The decision was made due to the need to protect the environment.
Kurum also noted that each Turkish citizen uses about 440 plastic bags annually. By 2025, Turkey intends to reduce the use of plastic bags to 40 bags per capita per year, the minister said.
Since Jan. 1, 2019, plastic bags in Turkish stores have become paid.
The cost of one plastic bag is 0.25 liras.
