The death toll of the collapse of an eight-story building in Istanbul increased to 16 people, said Suleyman Soylu, Turkish Interior Minister, Trend reports referring to the Turkish media.

"According to the latest data provided by us, 14 people died, and 14 more were rescued. But two more bodies were delivered from under the rubble afterwards, those of Sevval Yildiz and Eylul Dervisoglu," the minister said.

Earlier, Ali Yerlikaya, the Governor of Istanbul, stated that the three floors of the residential building were illegally completed. The governor urged citizens to observe silence in the area of ​​rescue operations and not cause disturbances for the rescuers.

Yerlikaya said that 43 people were registered in this building.

On February 6, an eight-story residential building collapsed in the Kartal District of Istanbul.
