Turkey’s Istanbul police carried out a special operation in four districts of Istanbul city, which resulted in the arrest of 11 militants of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), Trend reports referring to the Turkish media on Feb. 28.

Turkey’s Istanbul police carried out a special operation in four districts of Istanbul city, which resulted in the arrest of 11 militants of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), Trend reports referring to the Turkish media on Feb. 28.

Reportedly, the detainees planned to commit the terrorist attacks during the upcoming municipal election.

According to the Turkish media, special operations were also carried out against PKK terrorists in the Turkish eastern provinces on Feb. 28.

The municipal election in Turkey will be held March 31, 2019. They are held every five years.

The conflict between Turkey and PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has lasted more than 35 years, claiming more than 40,000 lives. PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization by the UN and the EU.
