Istanbul police have detained nine militants of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) terrorist group as part of a special operation, Trend reports March 11 with reference to the Turkish media.
The search is underway for two more militants who managed to escape from the police.
The terrorists planned attacks on Turkish state agencies during the municipal elections this year.
The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has lasted more than 25 years, claiming more than 40,000 lives. The PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization by the UN and the EU.
