Ex-deputy chief of Turkey’s Halkbank released from arrest

Baku, Azerbaijan, July 19

By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

Hakan Atilla, the previously arrested former deputy chief executive of Turkey’s Halkbank, has been released in the US, Trend reports referring to Turkish media.

It is reported that today Atilla will be sent to Turkey.

In March 2016, Hakan Atilla and Turkish businessman of Iranian descent Reza Zarrab were arrested in the US on charges of attempting to circumvent sanctions against Iran.

"I want to believe that the detention of Hakan Atilla will not adversely affect the relations between Ankara and Washington," said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Commenting earlier on the arrest of the Turkish businessman Reza Zarrab on charges of violating the sanctions regime against Iran, he noted that Turkey did not promise the US to join the sanctions against Iran.
