Turkish companies “Aladdin Middle East” and “Guney Yildizi Petrol Uretim Sondaj Muteahhitlik ve TicA.S” have applied to the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources to obtain a license for oil and gas exploration in the country, Trend reports referring to the ministry.
The ministry is considering the companies’ appeal for oil and gas exploration.
Both companies intend to conduct exploration in Turkey’s Diyarbakir province.
In 2018, 1,889 exploratory wells were drilled in Turkey.
During the reporting period, the total depth of exploration drilling reached 3,960,312 meters.
During the mentioned period, the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) drilled 943 exploratory wells with a total depth of 2,296,919 meters.
The ministry noted that 61 wells with a total depth of 92,599 meters were drilled by the General Directorate of the Mineral Research and Exploration of Turkey (MTA), while 144 wells with a total depth of 167,303 meters were drilled by other domestic companies.
As many as 546 exploratory wells with a total depth of 990,466 meters were drilled by foreign companies, while 195 wells were drilled by joint ventures and consortiums.
During the reporting period (January-December 2018), 495 deposits were discovered by TPAO, 8 by MTA, 21 by other domestic companies, 304 by foreign companies and 91 by joint consortiums.
In 2018, 91,991 sites with signs of hydrocarbons were discovered in Turkey.
A law was passed in Turkey in April 2014, allowing oil exploration in forests and national parks.
