Series of terrorist attacks averted in Istanbul

A series of terrorist attacks planned by the militants of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) was averted as part of an operation conducted by the Istanbul police, Trend reported via Turkish media.

According to reports, 22 PKK terrorists were detained during the operation.

Moreover, during interrogations it turned out that the terrorists planned attacks in shopping centers, train stations and other crowded places.

Terrorists also planned attacks on municipal leaders and MPs.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has been lasting around 40 years, claiming more than 40,000 lives. The PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization by the UN and the EU.
