MUSIAD: Military operations in northern Syria aimed at ensuring stability in region
Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct. 11
By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:
Military operations in northern Syria are aimed at ensuring stability in the region, Abdurrahman Uzun, head of Azerbaijani representative office of Turkey’s Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association (MUSIAD), told Trend Oct. 11.
Uzun said that Turkey is a supporter of peace in the Middle East, which some forces for many years have been trying to turn it into a zone of conflicts and war.
The representative noted that considering such a situation, Turkey earlier launched anti-terrorist Operation Euphrates Shield and the Operation Olive Branch in northern Syria, and is now conducting an operation entitled ‘Peace Spring’.
He added that for many centuries, Turks and Kurds peacefully coexisted in these territories, and the operation ‘Peace Spring’ isn’t directed against ethnic Kurds, either.
Uzun noted that conducting new anti-terrorist operations in northern Syria is also very important so that the Syrian refugees who left these lands can return to their native lands.
“The purpose of military operations is to clear northern Syria from militants of PKK, PYD-YPG groups, which are also recognized as terrorist ones in the US and the EU,” Uzun said. “MUSIAD Azerbaijan supports the Turkish government’s efforts to carry out anti-terrorist operations in northern Syria.”
On Oct. 9, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the beginning of a new military operation in Syria.
“A new anti-terrorist operation entitled ‘Peace Spring’ is being conducted in northern Syria,” Erdogan added.
The president stressed that Turkey will completely destroy the hotbeds of terrorism in northern Syria.
On Oct. 7, Erdogan said that in anticipation of the beginning of new military operations by the Turkish Armed Forces in northern Syria, the US servicemen began to leave the region.
