Turkish company gets license for domestic oil&gas exploration

Turkey’s AGS Jeofizik Hizmetleri Danısmanlik A.S. company has obtained a license for the exploration of oil and gas in the country, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey told Trend on May 11.

According to the ministry, a license for oil and gas exploration was issued in the north-west Turkish provinces of Tekirdag and Edirne with a total area of ​​58,305 hectares.

"The company that has received a license for oil and gas exploration appealed to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources on August 27, 2019," the ministry said.

In 2018, 1,889 exploration wells were drilled in Turkey. Meanwhile, the total depth of exploratory drilling operations amounted to 3,960 kilometers.

During this time, 943 exploration wells with a total penetration of 2,296 kilometers were drilled by the TPAO.

Turkey’s Mineral Research and Exploration General Directorate (MTA) drilled 61 wells with a total depth of 92,599 meters; another 144 wells with a total penetration of 167,303 meters were drilled by country’s other companies.

Some 546 exploratory wells with a total depth of 990,466 meters were developed by foreign companies and 195 wells - by joint ventures and consortia with a share of foreign capital.

From January through December 2018, TPAO identified 495 deposits, MTA - eight, other Turkish companies - 21, foreign companies - 304, joint consortia - 91 fields.

In 2018, 91,991 sites with the presence of hydrocarbons were discovered in Turkey.

In April 2014, a law allowing oil exploration in forests and national parks came into force in Turkey.
