The volume of cargo transshipment in the Turkish port of Mersin surpassed 6 million tons from January through February 2021, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey told Trend.

As the ministry noted, ships flying the flag of Turkey handled 399,936 tons of cargo, while ships flying the flags of other countries – over 5.6 million tons.

In the first 2 months of this year, the volume of the cargo movement in transit through the port of Mersin amounted to 203,920 tons, the ministry said.

The volume of cargo transshipment via Turkish ports from January through February 2021 exceeded 58.3 million tons.

According to the ministry, in the reporting period, the volume of cargo transshipment by ships flying the Turkish flag amounted to over 4.78 million tons.

From January through February of this year, more than 53.5 million tons of cargo have been handled by ships flying the flags of other countries, added the ministry.

Meanwhile, 11.8 million tons of cargo were transited through the ports of Turkey.

In February 2021, 29.6 million tons of cargo were handled through the ports, including 2.2 million tons by ships flying the Turkish flag, and more than 26.9 million tons by ships flying the flags of other countries.

Besides, more than 5.8 million tons of cargo were transported in transit through the ports of Turkey in the reporting month, added the ministry.
