Turkey reveals 1Q2021 data on cargo movement via local ports from Belgium

The volume of transshipment of goods from Belgium via Turkish ports made up 2.64 million tons in the first quarter of 2021, Turkey’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend.

According to the ministry, in the reporting period, 38,712 tons of goods were handled from Belgium via the ports of Turkey by ships flying the Turkish flag, and 2.6 million tons - by ships flying the flags of other countries.

From January through March 2021, ships flying the Belgian flag have transported 45 tons of cargo through the Turkish ports.

At the same time, 100,579 tons of cargo were transited from Belgium through the ports of Turkey.

The volume of cargo transshipment through the ports of Turkey exceeded 94.6 million tons in the first two months of 2021.

According to the ministry, the volume of cargo transshipment by ships flying the Turkish flag amounted to over 7.4 million tons in the reporting period.

From January through March of this year, more than 87.1 million tons of cargo had been handled by ships flying the flags of other countries, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, 18.4 million tons of cargo were transited through the ports of Turkey.

In March 2021, over 32.1 million tons of cargo were handled through the ports, including 2.8 million tons by ships flying the Turkish flag, and more than 29.2 million tons by ships flying the flags of other countries.

Besides, more than 5.9 million tons of cargo were transported in transit through the ports of Turkey in the reporting month, added the ministry.
