Turkey unveils volume of cargo shipment from Turkmenistan through local ports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 11

Around 42,401 tons of cargo were handled from Turkmenistan via the ports of Turkey in the first 4 months of 2021, the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend.

The ministry noted that all cargo transportation from Turkmenistan through the ports of Turkey was carried out by ships flying the flags of other countries.

"At the same time, no cargo was handled in transit from Turkmenistan via the Turkish ports," the ministry said.

During the reporting period, ships flying theTurkmen flag transported 25,602 tons of cargo through Turkish ports.

From January through April of this year, 247,534 tons of cargo were moved in transit from Turkmenistan through the Turkish ports.

The total volume of cargo transshipment through the ports of Turkey in the first 4 months of 2021 exceeded 124.9 million tons.

According to the ministry, in the reporting period, the volume of cargo transshipment via the local ports by ships flying the Turkish flag amounted to over 9.8 million tons.

In the first months of this year, more than 115.1 million tons of cargo had been handled by ships flying the flags of other countries, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, over 24.4 million tons of cargo were transited through the ports of Turkey.

In April 2021, over 33.8 million tons of cargo were handled through the ports, including 2.6 million tons by ships flying the Turkish flag, and more than 31.1 million tons by ships flying the flags of other countries.

Besides, more than 6.3 million tons of cargo were transported in transit through the ports of Turkey in the reporting month, added the ministry.
