Baku seaport reduces oil cargo transshipment by 14 percent

Baku International Sea Trade Port transshipped 858,000 metric tons of oil cargo in Jan.-Sept. 2014, compared to nearly one million metric tons in the same period of 2013, a source at the port told Trend on Oct.14.

"The volume of transshipment of oil and oil products has decreased by 14 percent," the source said.

Baku seaport transshipped over 1.41 million metric tons of oil cargo in 2013, which is one percent more than in 2012.

The port transshipped 1.4 million metric tons of oil cargo in 2012, compared to 1.74 million metric tons in 2011. It transshipped 1.99 million metric tons of oil and oil products in 2010, which is 21 percent less than in 2009.

Baku International Sea Trade Port, which was founded in 1902, has sea trade relations with Caspian Sea countries and has access to the world markets through the Volga-Don and Volga-Baltic waterways.

It links Georgian ports in the Black Sea with the Central Asian countries and is an important transport hub in the Europe-Caucasus-Asia corridor.
