Today, one can say with full confidence that the youth, which Azerbaijan's national leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev would've liked to see, has already been formed, the Azerbaijani president's aide for public and political affairs, Ali Hasanov, said.

"This is a healthy youth, capable of adequately representing the future of Azerbaijan," Hasanov said May 16 at the 4th report-election conference of the youth association of the country's ruling New Azerbaijan Party.

"Azerbaijani statehood, which restored its independence in 1991 and underwent a process of formation of a new social and political system, has walked a tough path of independent development over a 24-year history, facing various hardships," he said.

Hasanov said that throughout these years, the Azerbaijani people and state, being loyal to the ideas of freedom, overcoming hard and severe obstacles, have taken decisive steps to build a democratic, legal and secular state.

"These positive changes have borne fruit both in the work with the youth, and in various spheres of society, he added.

Hasanov expressed regret that in the early years of independence, Azerbaijani youth acted as a guarantor of interests of individual political groups.

He said the groups that were fighting for political power, were creating chaos in the country, were turning the youth, which had to be mobilized to strengthen the Azerbaijani statehood, into tool of political games.

He said that after Heydar Aliyev's second return to power, the socio-political stability, prosperity, democratic atmosphere created in the country, and the political and economic reforms facilitated a serious breakthrough not only in all the spheres of the county's life, but also in the work with youth, becoming a reason for implementation of serious work in this area.

"The ministry of youth and sports was created, forums began to be held, the youth day was founded, and other important things have happened," Hasanov added.

Hasanov said that today's youth in Azerbaijan is worthy of its country, which is the result of successful youth policy, the foundations of which were laid by the great leader Heydar Aliyev, and which is being continued under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.

Hasanov said young people in Azerbaijan, acquiring deep knowledge, mastering the modern world-view and the national ideas of Azerbaijanism, are being formed as worthy citizens of the country.

Hasanov further said that today, the education of young people as worthy citizens and patriots is also the main idea of the youth policy of Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev.

"As the president says, a patriot should not be a person who loves Azerbaijan only in words, but should be a person able to put own potential to Azerbaijan's development," said Hasanov. "Azerbaijani youth must be literate, educated, tied to the motherland and should contribute to the country's further development."

He added that the Azerbaijani state is mainly expecting the feelings of statehood and patriotism from young people.

Hasanov said the duty of each young person is to protect the country against internal and external attacks, threats and pressure.

"Every young person, regardless of nationality, religion and race, must feel the idea of Azerbaijanism," said Hasanov.

He also noted in his speech that the youth, represented in the New Azerbaijan Party, really showcases a high activity in the social and political life of Azerbaijan.

He said that in the New Azerbaijan Party, youth is brought together by the ideas of the great leader Heydar Aliyev, faith and trust in President Ilham Aliyev, the interests of the statehood and the desire to make joint efforts for Azerbaijan's development.

Hasanov said the party's youth association really brings together the great political power, spiritual power, and the energy of youth.

"This gives us confidence that the future is in good hands," said Hasanov.

He said the Azerbaijani youth should be directly involved in the country's development, and the protection of Azerbaijan should be a sacred duty of the young people.

"Youth should contribute to the growth of Azerbaijan's power," he said.

Hasanov added that today, along with the youth, represented at the New Azerbaijan Party, other young people too should spare no effort to protect the statehood of Azerbaijan.

"As you know, recently, various circles in the US and Europe, in particular, international organizations and persons under their influence, intend to harm the country's international image, to break stability in Azerbaijan," Hasanov reminded.

"Our youth should to be vigilant in such matters, should show civic position, and quickly respond to any issue," he stressed.
