Parliamentary Committee: Holding unsanctioned rally is human rights violation

Azerbaijan, Baku, April 1 / Trend, M. Aliyev /

Holding a rally in the city center where there is intense traffic and a large crowd violates the rights of many people, Parliamentary Human Rights Committee Chairperson Rabiyat Aslanova said.

"The protection of the right to freedom of assembly is a constitutional right in Azerbaijan and the government considers this right to be essential. The law on freedom of assembly says that people
have a right to assembly and to share their opinions, but they should not infringe others' rights," Aslanova said.

According to the law, individuals wishing to rally must inform the relevant executive authorities, she said.

People who initiate rallies should organize their activities based on the principle of "one person's rights end where another person's rights begin," Aslanova said.
