Azerbaijan's Ministry of Youth and Sports has commented on disqualification of six Azerbaijani weightlifters over the doping use.

Six Azerbaijani weightlifters, Elkhan Aliguluzade, Sylvia Angelova, Firidun Guliyev, Valentin Hristov and Intigam Zairov were disqualified for eight years each and Dadash Dadashbayli was disqualified for four years, read a message from the ministry June 13.

As a structure constantly fighting the doping use and enlightening athletes on this issue, the Ministry of Youth and Sports said Azerbaijan is among the first 40 countries that joined the Anti-Doping Convention.

Moreover, after joining the Convention, Azerbaijan became one of the first countries to start working out an anti-doping law, said the ministry.

The law will also include an article about initiating a criminal case against athletes and coaches over doping use.

Azerbaijan's Ministry of Youth and Sports systemically sends news to all federations about the doping tests, as well as the list of medicaments containing doping.

"Unfortunately, despite all this work, in some cases, the beverages and food consumed carelessly, can lead to the detection of doping in the blood. Therefore, the ministry urges athletes to be careful. The ministry is very concerned over the incident and will take the necessary steps in this regard," said the message.

In spite of the decision taken by the International Weightlifting Federation, the athletes can file an appeal and protect their rights, said the ministry.
