The Director of Production Control at Iran's National Petrochemical Industries Co. Ali Mohammad Bosaq-Zadeh says that the country has produced 37 million tons of petrochemical products in the past 10 months, Shana news agency reported on Feb. 6.

The country uses 45 petrochemical units with an output of about 60 million tons, which provide for 36 percent of the country's non-oil exports and 45 percent of its industrial export.

Iran's annual petrochemical export amounted to worth $12 billion two years ago.

International statistics show that Iran's petrochemical output comprises 24 percent of that of the Middle East region.

It is expected that the country's output would reach 100 million tons in two years which would be worth $20 billion, equal to the country's annual oil revenue for most of the 1990s.

The official also provided comments on the launch of two new petrochemical complexes in the couple of months to come.

The first one, the Takhte Jamshid complex, will give an annual output of 30 thousand tons of styrene butadiene rubber and 18 thousand tons of polybutadiene rubber, completely eliminating the need for raw material import in the country's tire industry.

The second one, the Luristan complex, will also provide an annual output of 300 thousand tons of petrochemical products.
