The 12th meeting of joint Turkmen-Iranian Commission on Economic Cooperation is underway in Tehran in these days, which will run until July 17, an official Turkmen source said on Saturday.

Turkmenistan with Iran has carried out large scale projects such as the construction of the Dostluk reservoir, the Tejan-Sarakhs-Mashad railroad, interstate pipelines and power lines.

At this stage, the implementation project referred to is the North-South rail project which takes in part of Kazakhstan. Construction of the railway is supported by the Asian Development Bank and Islamic Development Bank.

The parties are also negotiating to increase supply of energy resources from Turkmenistan.

The last high-level meeting was held in June. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov, who attended the Beijing meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

During the meeting the sides discussed state and prospects of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on topical issues of regional and international politics.

It was reported that the presidents stood for enhanced cooperation, the profound potential.

Head of states also expressed confidence that "the traditional cooperation built on the principles of equality and mutual respect, will continue to focus at the realization of a rich economic and cultural potential of the two countries and strengthening of stability in the region".
