Azerbaijan's energy output exceeded 7000 megawatts in 2013, the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry Natig Aliyev told journalists ahead of the meeting with the member companies of the Caspian-European Club (CEIBC) on Feb. 21.
Azerbaijan's energy capacity exceeds the country's electricity need by 1500 megawatts, according to the minister said.
"Azerbaijan fully meets its own energy security, and there are great opportunities to improve the country's role in the energy security of the region as a whole," Aliyev said.
The work is conducted in the framework of the projects on the creation of the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey energy bridge as well as parallel work of Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran energy power system.
"This will enhance the role of Azerbaijan in the energy security of the region," he said.
The main producer of electricity in Azerbaijan is Azerenergy JSC, which has more than 200 substations on its balance sheet with a capacity of 500, 330, 220 and 110 kilovolt-amperes, as well as eight hydroelectric plants and 13 thermal power plants.
