Baku, Azerbaijan, May 15
By Emil Ismayilov - Trend:
Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey will agree on the volumes and tariffs of electricity supply as part of a trilateral energy bridge project within a special working group, Azerbaijani Minister of Energy Natiq Aliyev told media on May 15.
"A working group has been recently created," he said. "The export-import operations between the three countries will be discussed as part of this group."
As part of this project, Georgia will act as a transit country and export electricity. First, Azerbaijan will be able to pay off the debt for electricity supplied by Turkey to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and then enter the European market.
Electricity can be supplied as part of the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey energy bridge in 2014-2015.
Aliyev also stressed the work conducted as part of the project of connecting and ensuring parallel operation of power systems of Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran.
"Along with the success in gas exports, the successful implementation of energy projects will allow Azerbaijan to achieve positive results in the electricity supply," the minister added. "This will also make a great contribution to the country's economic development."
Azerbaijan's electricity generation power system increased by 830 megawatts in 2013, exceeding 7,000 megawatts.
