Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov is expected to pay an official visit to Turkey in early June, 2014, a message from the government of Turkmenistan said on June 2.

"The high-level Turkmen-Turkish negotiations are expected to promote the further expansion of fruitful cooperation based on the strong bonds of friendship and brotherhood, historically common cultural and spiritual traditions of the Turkmen and Turkish peoples," the government message said.

After the negotiations, it is planned to sign a package of bilateral documents that will strengthen the legal framework of the interstate relations.

The visit program envisages a number of bilateral meetings and participation at the fourth Summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States.

Turkey is one of the largest trade partners of Turkmenistan. Over 600 Turkish companies are operating in the Turkmen market. They are involved in power generation, oil and gas industries, construction, transportation, communication, textile and agricultural industries.

Turkmenistan ranks fourth in the world in terms of natural gas reserves and the country exports its natural gas to markets in China, CIS countries and Iran.

Turkmenistan's resources can be delivered to the European markets through the Caspian Sea by constructing a 300-kilometer long pipeline along the sea bottom to the coast of Azerbaijan.

Afterwards the Turkmen fuel can be sent to Turkey which has a common border with European countries.
