Turkmenistan constructing modern port in Caspian Sea

The draft of the port infrastructure modernization in the Caspian Sea is being worked out upon Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s instructions, the Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary state news agency reported Nov. 15.

According to the message, the ground-breaking ceremony for the port took place in 2013.

President Berdimuhamedov personally reviewed the pace of construction several times, the message said.

According to the message, special attention is paid to the establishment of a multimodal center there, as well as the formation of a logistics system in the port, capable to ensure competitiveness and high quality services for the distribution of goods.

Earlier, it was reported that Turkish Calik Holding is constructing the port worth more than $2 billion.

The design capacity will reach 15 million tons of various cargos per year. This project envisages the construction of a passenger car ferry terminal with a total area of ​​230,000 square meters and container terminals with a total area of 249,000 square meters.

The complex will include a loading terminal, a bulk cargo terminal, a polypropylene terminal, as well as a shipyard.
