Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takhte-Ravanchi denounced racism in western countries.

Answering a question in regards to the U.S. police's discrimination against the black community, Takhte-Ravanchi said that racism in countries who claim to be advocates of human rights is shameful, Iran's Tasnim News Agency reported on Aug. 18.

"The rights of all humans should be respected," he said.

"Western countries still struggle with racism. Such a phenomenon in the 21st century is disgraceful," the Iranian official added.

Eighteen-year old Mike Brown was shot and killed by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri last week. The black teenager was unarmed when he was shot dead.

His killing has sparked nationwide protests across the country in the past few days.
