Iranian companies to invest around $1 billion in airport project

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Two Iranian companies have expressed readiness to invest around $1 billion in the implementation of the Imam Khomeini International Airport development project.

Managing Director of Iran's Airports Company Mohammad Ilkhani said a memorandum of understanding has been signed with the two companies, Iran's Fars news agency reported on November 22.

However, he did not provide details about the two companies.

Meanwhile, the managing director of one of the companies said €1.2 billion will be invested in the project through a Chinese-French joint venture.

China's CSCEC and France's Lyon Airport will participate in the joint investment plan, he added.

Imam Khomeini International Airport is the main international airport of Iran. As of August 2014, Imam Khomeini International Airport serves more than 40 airlines operating over 700 of weekly flights connecting Tehran to cities in over 30 countries and territories worldwide.

The airport has one passenger terminal, with a total annual handling capacity of 6.5 million passengers and 120,000 metric tons of cargo.
