Iran’s crude steel output increases by 8%

Over 15.5 million metric tons of crude steel were produced in Iran during the first 11 months of current Iranian fiscal year (March 21, 2014-Feb. 20), Mohammad Fatemian, the director general of the Industries, Mines and Trade Ministry's Office for Mining Industries said.

The figure is eight percent more compared the same months of preceding year, Fatemian said, Iran's industry, mines and trade ministry's official SHATA news portal reported March 17.

Iranian companies also produced 15.7 million metric tons of steel products during the 11-month period, the official said, adding the figure indicates a 3.5 percent growth compared to the same months of last year.

About 31.2 million metric tons of iron ore also produced in the country in the period, he said.

Iran produced 15.6 million metric tons of crude steel during the last fiscal year (ended on March 21, 2014), 8.8 percent more in comparison with preceding year.

Islamic Republic's steel products output also stood at 16.5 million metric tons in last fiscal year, indicating a 5 percent decrease year on year.

The country produced 16.331 million metric tons of crude steel in 2014.

Iran's crude steel production reached 15.421 million metric tons in 2013, which was 6.6 percent more than its preceding year.

Iran was the world's 15th biggest producer of steel in 2013.
