Car production in Iran nearly halved

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran's car production dropped by 47.6 percent in the sixth fiscal month of Shahrivar (August 23-September 22) compared to the same month last year.

A total of 60,533 cars of different types were produced in the mentioned month, compared to 115,462 last year according to data released by the Iranian industry, mining, and trade.

Sedan car production decreased by 44 percent and hit 54,503. Meanwhile, 5134 pick-up trucks and 23 buses were produced, 68.5 percent and 53.1 percent fall respectively.

In the first six months of the current Iranian fiscal year, 501,104 sedan cars were manufactured in Iran, a 3.8 percent fall year-on-year.

Meanwhile, passenger car production dropped by 29 percent in the sixth fiscal month compared to the fifth fiscal month.

The drop in car production started in the third fiscal month (May 22-June 21), in which 3,000 cars were produced less than the second fiscal month.

The country manufactured 1.13 million vehicles in the past Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, showing 53 percent growth compared to its preceding year. 



Latest data shows that Iran ranks 18th on the list of the world's top auto manufacturers.

The 2014 production statistics by the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA) indicate Iran's auto production increased by 46.7 percent in the 12-month period.
