Iran is going to hold an international conference on car industry on February 29 - March 1, said Sassan Qorbani, head of Iran's Part Makers Association, who is also secretary general to the conference.

He added that on the sidelines of the conference an exhibition will be held to showcase the country's vehicle industry capabilities, Trend correspondent reported from Tehran January 4.

"The exhibition will be held on February 28 - March 2 and will focus on Iranian companies only," he explained.

The conference was to be held in mid-fall but was postponed to a time in the post-sanctions era.

Iran is to be freed from international sanctions in coming weeks following its landmark nuclear deal of July 14.

Commenting on Iran's policy to work with foreign companies, Qorbani said the conference will pursue joint investments between Iranian companies and foreign counterparts.

He added that joint regional markets are another plan Iran is pursuing to fulfill in talks with foreign companies.

Iran's car industry is heavily foreign-bound, so much so that what has been dubbed the country's national car, Samand, is a reshaped version of Peugeot 405.

The industry was grounded last year as people stopped buying new cars in expectation of the removal of sanctions and the flood of foreign-made, quality cars to the market.
