A series of armed attacks were carried out against Iran's police in the Sistan and Baluchestan province over the past 24 hours, the Iranian news agency IRNA reported Oct. 9.

The attacks killed four police officers, leaving five others wounded.

In the afternoon Oct. 8 the "110 hot line" of the police service of the province's Saravan city received a report on an alleged crime.

After the police officers' arrival at the reported address, unknown persons opened fire at them. As a result of the ensuing skirmish three officers were killed, while the attackers fled the scene.

Aside from that, late at night of Oct. 9, the unidentified armed people attacked a police station in the Saravan city, killing one policeman.

A criminal case was launched into the incidents.

Hidayatullah Mirmuradzehi, an MP representing the Saravan city, said a car bomb exploded Oct. 9 at 07:15 (UTC/GMT +3:30 hours) near a police post in the city.

The explosion injured five policemen.

In connection with the armed attacks on the police officers, the head of the Sistan and Baluchestan province held an emergency meeting.

Currently, operative investigation is underway to identify and arrest the perpetrators of the attacks.
