Quake shakes vicinity of Behbahan in Khuzestan province of Iran

An earthquake measuring 5.2 degrees on the open ended Richter scale shook the vicinity of Behbahan Township in Iran's southwestern Khuzestan province early Saturday morning, IRNA reported.

According to the Seismography Network of the Country, affiliated to the Geophysics Institute of the University of Tehran, the quake occurred at 00:15:41 (20:45:41 GMT, Friday).

The epicenter of the earthquake was at 50.45 degrees longitude and 30.51 degrees latitude.

The IRNA reporter in Yasouj, in Kohgilouyeh and Boyer Ahmad province reports that the quake also shook Dogonbadan City of Gachsaran Township in that province, urging the city's worried residents to rush to the streets.

Some walls in Dogonnadan were cracked and some window panes were broken, according to our reporter.

Gachsaran Governor Abdolrahim Rahimi said that the depth of the 5.2 degree quake was 10 kilometers beneath the earth level in Behbahan, which is located at a 60 kilometer distance from Gachsaran.

Rahimi added that there is still no report about the probable losses of the strong quake.
