Turkey started the construction of a wall along the border with Syria to prevent entering of illegal immigrants from this country, CNN Turk TV channel reported on Saturday.
According to the TV channel, the wall will have a height of two meters.
Clashes between government forces and the armed opposition have been continuing in Syria for over two years. According to UN statistics, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria exceeds 110,000 people, and nearly three million people are in need of humanitarian aid.
Earlier, the head of Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), Fuat Oktay said that the number of Syrian refugees living in Turkey neared 300,000 people.
According to Oktay, over 181,000 refugees reside in camps set up by the Turkish government for Syrian refugees. In addition, over 100,000 refugees reside in the border provinces of Turkey, outside the camps.
