On August 20, Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Azad Rahimov met with athletes and their coaches who successfully participated in Canoe & Kayak World Championship held in the Canadian City of Dartmouth. The Minister congratulated the winners Valentine Demyanenko, and also Sergey Bezuglyi and Maxim Prokopenko who gained silver and bronze medals.
"The results achieved at the world championships are a big success. The results you gain propagate Azerbaijani sport in the world," said Rahimov.
The Minister said that the successes achieved in a short term are the result of hard work of the Azerbaijani National Rowing Federation and coaches of the team.
"Canoeing is an elite sport, it distracts children and teenagers from the bad habits, drugs, adverse impact of the street, drew them in sports zone. I believe that after putting the complex in Mingachevir city into operation, even greater successes will be achieved in rowing. "
Participating in the event, the President of the Azerbaijani National Rowing Federation Elchin Zeynalov thanked Azad Rahimov for reception and said that not only adult athletes, but also teenagers have made progress in canoeing. One of the young canoeists of Azerbaijan has already won a pass to the Summer Olympic Games amongst teenagers, which will take place next year in Singapore.
In the World Championship, Valentin Demyanenko gained gold medal in a single canoe competition in the 200 meters, and two-Bezuglyi Sergei Maxim Prokopenko in a double canoe - silver (1000 m) and bronze (500 meters) medals.
