Agriculture in Azerbaijan (January-November 2016)

The agricultural production volume in actual prices amounted to 5,305.2 million manat in Azerbaijan in January-November 2016 or by 2.3 percent more compared to the same period of 2015. In particular, the production volume in plant cultivation amounted to 2,512.1 million manat, while - 2,793.1 million manat in livestock.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee’s report, the livestock production increased by 2.5 percent, crop production – 2.1 percent in the reporting period.

The main plant products were harvested in Azerbaijan.

As of December 1, 2016, some 2.84 million tons of grain were collected from a 961,800 hectare-territory, which is by 1.97 percent more than in January-November 2015. On average, some 29.5 centners of products were collected from each hectare.

The corn yield increased in Azerbaijan.

Thus, the average yield per hectare increased by 2 centners and reached 61.8 centners compared to the same period of 2015. Some 219,700 tons of corn were collected from a 35,500-hectare-area (98.8 percent of the total cultivated area).

In general, some 880,200 tons of potatoes were collected during the reporting period, which is by 48,700 tons more than in the same period of 2015, 1.23 million tons of vegetables (21,300 tons less), 464,500 tons of melons (20,000 tons less).

Some 876,200 tons of fruits and berries were collected in the country (4,400 tons less), 134,400 tons of grapes (18,400 tons less), 1,002.1 tons of tea (a 74 percent increase) and 3,600 tons of tobacco (a 3.7 percent increase) than in the same period of 2015. Some 17,100 tons of sunflower and 283,500 tons of sugar beet were collected in the country during the reporting period.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, as of November 28, some 78,210 tons cotton were collected, which is by 2.3 times more than in the same period of 2015 (34,270 tons). Cotton was mainly harvested in Saatli district during the reporting period. Some 10,880 tons of cotton were harvested from an 8,110-hectare area.

In total, some 52,060 hectares were planted with cotton in 2016, or by 2.8 times more than in 2015.

Some 993,500 hectares were plowed for sowing winter crops.

Some 801,000 hectares were sown with cereals. Some 524,100 hectares account for wheat, 276,700 hectares – barley, 0,200 hectares - others. Some 435,600 tons of meat in live weight, 1.83 million tons of milk, 1.47 billion pieces of eggs and 16,500 tons of wool were produced for the reporting period.

Meat production increased by 1.6 percent, milk - by 3.1 percent, eggs by 4.8 percent, while wool production decreased by 1.6 percent in the country compared to January-November 2015.
