Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov addressed the nation on Thursday in connection with the 20th anniversary of independence.
His message reads "on the eve of the third millennium, Oct. 27, 1991, the Turkmen people realized their cherished dream and become the rightful owner of their generous and holy land."
"Our brave people become the real master of the high mountains, fast flowing rivers, vast steppes, native towns and villages where glorious ancestors had lived freely," Berdimuhammedov said.
The message reads that "independence is a great, immeasurable concept, and a solid foundation of inviolability for state unity and the solidarity of the people."
"Following the principles of peace, friendship and cooperation and pursuing a constructive, deeply balanced policy, Turkmenistan for 20 years of independent development has taken a worthy place in the international system of coordinates," the message reads.
