Iran-Russia military cooperation not halted - Mehmanparast

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ramin Mehmanparast has said that Tehran and Moscow are continuing their military cooperation, MNA reported.

Mehmanparast made the remarks during a press briefing on Tuesday in reply to a question about the news reports saying that Russia has agreed to provide Iran with electronic warfare in return for the cancellation of the contract for delivery of the S-300 missile system to Iran.

Konstantin Biryulin, deputy director of Russia's Federal Service for Military Technical Cooperation, said on October 25 that Russia has delivered to Iran a consignment of mobile radar radiation detectors and hopes to agree on a number of similar deals, RIA Novosti reported.

"We're not talking here about aircraft or submarines or even S-300 systems. It is about providing security for the Iranian state," Biryulin stated.

Mehmanparast said, "Tehran and Moscow has a good relation, and we are continuing our military cooperation."

If any agreement is made, it will be announced, he added.

Some seeking to take advantage of next report of IAEA on Iran

Mehmanparast also replied to a question about the news reports saying that the report that the International Atomic Energy Agency is scheduled to issue on Iran's nuclear program in the near future may not be a positive one.

"The fact that certain people are saying that the agency may mention in its next report that Iran's nuclear program is not peaceful illustrates that certain governments are seeking to use a report, which has not yet been published, for political purposes," he stated.

On the fact that Russia and China has expressed hope that the IAEA would remain independent and professional with an objective and impartial attitude, and cautiously resolve the issue based on facts, Mehmanparast said that the move will help elevate the agency's legal status.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson commented on the fact that Palestine became a full member of the UN cultural and educational agency on Monday.

The move was a symbolic move which showed the people's support for the Palestinian nation at the international level, the official pointed out.
