Iran plans on becoming the world's fifth largest copper producer by 2014.
Currently the country is the world's seventh copper producer and has 270 million tons of the metal in reserves, the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) reports.
New copper deposits were recently discovered in the Islamic Republic and will help it move ahead on the list of the world's biggest producers of the metal.
