Iran's internet capacity must be increased by 8 times, country's Communications Minister Reza Taghipour said, IRIB News reported.
Taghipour noted that based on the country's five-year development plan, internet capacity must be increased by as much as 8 times.
The minister said that Iran's current capacity of 63 gb/s speed is to be increased up to 500 gb/s. He added that there cannot be any quarantees that this will be fulfilled within a 5 year development plan, yet Iran can complete it within 6 years or so.
In May 2012, Taghipour said Iran has the highest amount if people using internet in the whole Middle East, adding that over 34 million of people in Iran are using internet.
Taghipour also noted that country's online security must be hardened, to protect from possible future cyber attacks.
