The relations between Azerbaijan and Iran are good, and they are extensive, Iranian Foreign Ministry's spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said today at a press conference in Tehran, Press TV reported.

"Given the common grounds of the two countries, given the great commonalities, all this gives opportunities for further expansion of relations," Mehmanparast said.

The spokesman added that the relations between neighbor countries should not be damaged by various issues of minor importance.

Answering the question about the bp possibly polluting the Caspian Sea, Mehmanparast said that this issue is under strict control of the Caspian littoral states.

"There are conventions held between the Caspian littoral states, and these conventions include the issues of ecosystem and environment. The pollution issue has been carefully observed, and specific measures are being taken to stop the pollution of the Caspian Sea," Mehmanparast said.

The spokesman added that the oil companies follow strict rules regarding their work in the Caspian Sea, and they will not be allowed to spread pollution.
