The earthquake did not affect the operation of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, as it occurred at a distance of more than 100 kilometers away, according to the Fars agency.

This information was also confirmed by the project manager of the Bushehr plant Mahmoud Jafari, adding that the plant was designed for an earthquake measuring 8 points.

At least three people were killed in an earthquake in the Iranian city of Kaki, the Fars agency reported on Tuesday.

In addition, according to the Iranian media, a mountain has been destroyed, debris of which fell on the city Shonbeh. It is noted that the most severe damage occurred in this city.

Rescue workers have headed to the Iranian province of Bushehr affected by the earthquake, according to the ISNA.

According to the head of Iran's Red Crescent Society Mahmud Muzaffar, five rescue teams of 20 people each and two rescue helicopters have headed to the area of ​​the earthquake.

The first jolt of the earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale was recorded at 16:22 local time. Several strong aftershocks measuring more than five points were recorder later.
An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale hit the same region two days earlier.

As reported by ISNA, two jolts measuring 4.2 points were also felt in the province of Fars.

According to Iranian media reports, some buildings were destroyed and telephone communication with the affected cities interrupted in the earthquake area.

Some 100,000 people reside in the region affected by the earthquake, including cities of Kaki, Shonbeh, Khormooj and villages.
