MP: Nation's nuclear rights red line for Iran

An Iranian lawmaker says the Islamic Republic has never violated international regulations and will not cross its red line which is defending the nation's nuclear rights, PressTV reported.

"We have never breached international regulations or those of the [International Atomic Energy] Agency in implementing our nuclear program," deputy chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Mansour Haqiqatpour, said on Sunday.

"We have maintained 3.5-5-percent [uranium] enrichment for [nuclear] fuel production and 20-percent enrichment for the production of radio medicines and for the Tehran Research Reactor and we will never retreat from these inalienable rights," the Iranian legislator added.

Haqiqatpour said lifting sanctions is in the interest of Western countries, stressing Iran's determination to continue its nuclear activities in line with international regulations.

"The final agreement [with the six world powers] is expected to uphold the nuclear rights of the Iranian nation and remove the existing obstacles in a legal way," the legislator stated.

Iran and the six major world powers - Russia, China, France, Britain, the US and Germany -- sealed an interim agreement in Geneva on November 24 to set the stage for the full resolution of the West's dispute with the Islamic Republic over the country's nuclear energy program.

Under the Geneva deal, the six world powers have agreed to lift some of the existing sanctions against the Islamic Republic in exchange for Iran agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities during a six-month period. It was also agreed that no more sanctions would be imposed on Iran within the same timeframe.
