Iran's former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has recommended the police force to sell oil to compensate for its budget deficits, Iran's police chief Esmaeil Ahmadi Moqaddam said, Iran's KhabarOnline agency reported on Jan. 30.

"Last year, Ahmadinejad entrusted the police force with selling an oil consignment, he said, but criticized those who had disclosed information about the issue, Moghaddam said. "It was not nice to reveal solutions and approaches while the country was suffering from sanctions."

On Jan. 30, Ahmadi Moqaddam said the police force owed $185 million to the oil ministry for selling crude oil, and the debt had been planned to be settled this year.

According to reports, the National Iranian Oil Company entrusted a company affiliated with the police force with selling 1.639 million barrels of oil in the past Iranian year 1391 (March 2012-March 2013).

Reportedly, another company, owned by Iranian billionaire Babak Zanjani, also owes to the NIOC for selling oil and gas.

In December 2013, Reuters uoted an Iranian oil official as saying that the country exported 600,000 barrels of oil per month (21.3 million liters per day) in the first three quarters of the current year.
