The U.S. wants to hold a trilateral meeting on Syria in mid-January according to a statement by State Department spokes-person Victoria Nuland, The Voice of Russia reported.
The first expert meeting of the deputy foreign ministers of Russia and the United States between Michael Bogdanov and William Burns, as well as Arab League and the UN special envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, was held on December 10th 2012 in Geneva.
Participants of the meeting agreed that it was necessary to prevent the further escalation of the military conflict in Syria.
The Russian side confirmed its belief that the decisions of the meeting of the Action Group on Syria, which was held on June 30th in Geneva, "remain the uncontested platform for a peaceful solution to the internal conflict in the country" and the urgent need to stop all military action in Syria.
