Georgia has become one of the first countries to introduce the newest combined DNA Index System (CODIS).

As reported by the U.S. Embassy in Georgia, CODIS was introduced in the Georgian National Forensics with the assistance of the United States.

The project was supported by the U.S. State Department. U.S. law enforcement agencies are actively using the database of DNA and its distribution abroad has begun recently.

Employees of the Forensics Bureau are undergoing a week of training, which began on June 11.

CODIS was created in 1994 on the basis of the FBI.

The laboratory in Georgia will be the first in the Caucasus, where the CODIS was introduced.

The database will facilitate the work of law enforcement agencies.
