Georgia's Defense Ministry "strongly dismisses" the reports about a mass poisoning of servicemen of the 4th mechanized brigade of the Georgian armed forces, stationed at the Vaziani military base, near Tbilisi, News Georgia reported April 3.

Georgian media outlets earlier on Friday disseminated information about the poisoning of about 80 military men at the military base in Vaziani.

"After field exercises on April 2, three soldiers consulted sick bay, where it was found out that they had minor problems with chronic gastritis and disbacteriosis," the ministry stated. "The servicemen were provided one-time medical care, and in the evening they returned to the unit and continued performing their duties."

It was noted in the statement that the ministry actually appealed to the Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau, to check the quality of food and water meant for the military men.

"The Defense Ministry periodically selectively conducts such laboratory tests," according to the statement.
