Bayil remand prison prisoners move to new jail: Azerbaijani Penal Service head

Prisoners are moving from Bayil remand prison to a new jail in Baku starting from early this week, Azerbaijani Deputy Justice Minister and Penal Service Head Nazim Alakbarov said.

Public representatives got familiar with new jail in Azerbaijani capital earlier last week.

Another Justice Ministry official Malik Alakbarov said new jail covers an area of 20 hectares and will house 2,500 prisoners. The jail composes 9 buildings. Three of them have been put into operation. There are 576 cells and 38 penal cells, he said.

The Jail 1 will house1,200 and Jail 3 will house 1,500 people.

Malik Alakbarov said women's jail able to house 350 people and reformatory able to house 150 people and a new building of the Serious Crimes Court are expected to be built near new jail.

Nazim Alakbarov said about 1,200 prisoners will move to the jail at an early stage. The process will complete next week.

All prisoners from Bayil and Shuvalan Jail 3 will move to a new jail.

He said construction of a new prison in Shaki will complete by end of the year. Jail in Umbaki settlement will be put into operation in 2010.
