A police officer on guard cared about a mother and her child by removing them from a recent rally to prevent them from being hurt, Ehsan Zahidov, the press secretary of the Interior Ministry, told Trend on Wednesday. He was commenting on reports that an underage child was detained and punished during an unsanctioned rally staged by the so-called Public Chamber on April 17.
"In preventing the April 17 illegal actions staged by the radical opposition, which aimed to violate law and order, a police officer paid attention to a woman and her small child. As it was unsafe there, the mother and her child were placed into a police car and released in a safe place at the National Seaside Park."
Zahidov said the officer ensured that the child did not fall beneath the trampling feet of the crowd during the unsanctioned rally.
"On the contrary, if the child had suffered, then everyone would have criticized the police," he said.
