Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan.11 / Trend G.Veliyev /
Research center on high technologies under the Azerbaijani ministry of communications and IT will start to produce system of light-emitting diode lighting, Sevda Abdullayeva, center's director, told Trend on Wednesday.
Abdullayeva said, laboratory research in this field have already been carried out and according to the schedule, it is planned to start production of LED lighting systems in mid 2012.
"Volume of world market of LED technologies was estimated at around $11 million in 2011. For Azerbaijan it is a new area. Currently around 30 percent of produced in the world electricity is used for lighting. Solid state lighting is power efficient and environmentally friendly method, which, unlike ordinary incandescent lamps, makes it possible to save consumed electricity to 80 percent," Ms Abdullayeva said.
Abdullayeva added that LED lightning systems produced by the research center will be used for decorative lighting as well as general lighting. These are architectural buildings, streets, parks and arterial highways.
Also the Centre plans to produce infrared LED for their further use in fiber-optic communication lines. Production of infrared LED is planned to start in mid 2012.
