Azerbaijan forms economy based on knowledge

Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 18 / Trend H. Valiyev /

The productive use of natural resources contributes to the formation of Azerbaijani economy based on the knowledge, Director of the Institute of Information Technologies of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences Rasim Aliguliyev told Trend on Tuesday.
He said that the development of information-communication technologies is of special importance at the state level. A good example is the widespread use of IT in the state bodies' activity. There will not be such an industry in the future where IT will not be used, whether it is tourism, agriculture, etc.

"Today, the Internet as a means of telecommunications has become a normal way of life," he said. "The ongoing reforms in the telecommunications sphere will serve to its further development. Today, the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry held very important operations in this direction. The technological sphere in the country has been completely digitized with the use of advanced technologies. This opens up new prospects to develop the Internet in Azerbaijan, in particular broadband access."

The development of mobile communication, the penetration rate which today has reached 110 percent and which forms a new kind of online relations, is also important.

Today some people form their activity directly in the virtual sphere. They deal with e-commerce, distance education, hold forums, share ideas in social networks. The country forms "electronic government", "e-science", "e-learning", etc.

"Azerbaijan is among top ten countries - the leaders in this field," he said. "We support all the ongoing operations in this direction, thus taking an active participation in them."
