Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct. 3 / Trend A. Akhundov /

Azerbaijan will be able to take all necessary actions to simplify the visa regime with the European Union, EU ambassador to Azerbaijan Roland Kobia said today.

"We are preparing for the next round of negotiations on visa facilitation between Azerbaijan and the EU and signing a readmission agreement," he told Trend today. "The next meeting will be held in Baku in November. We expect progress and hope that Azerbaijan will be able to take all the necessary actions."

He said that the main obstacle to the acceleration of this process is the signing of a readmission agreement.

"Azerbaijan does not have this agreement with any country," he said. "This is something new for the country and we understand this. Both processes - visa facilitation and signing a readmission agreement must be held in parallel."

The negotiations on the association agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan are underway, he said.

"We will resume the video conferences soon," he said. "Then a plenary session will be held."

Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev told media earlier that Azerbaijan expects to obtain some results after the negotiations on visa facilitation with the EU in 2013.

"Simplifying the visa regime will affect major population groups - students, persons traveling for medical treatment, and entrepreneurs," he said. "In general, it will cover about 10-12 categories. We try to increase this number."
