The number of payment cards issued by Azerbaijan's postal operator - Azerpost LLC, increased by 35 per cent, head of postal communications department of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies Novruz Mammadov told Trend on Oct. 12.

According to him, at present, the number of Azerpost's payment cards exceeds 13 million units, and they are served by the MilliKart processing centre.

Azerpost LLC is a principal member of MasterCard.

The postal operator is also planning to increase the number of ATMs in its network up to 20 units by late 2013. A two-fold growth is also expected in the number of POS- terminals.

Currently, the number of ATMs in the Azerpost's network is 15 units, and POS- terminals - 50.

The main goal of increasing POS-terminals' number in Azerbaijan's postal network is to expand opportunities for the payment of wages to employees of postal service and other agencies.

Currently, the number of Azerpost's post offices that have received licenses for provision of financial services to the population, exceeds 1,000 units, over 100 of which are located in the territory of Baku and the rest - in the regions.

Azerpost LLC continues to work on connection to the corporate network of departments, located in remote locations, using 3G mobile network of Azercell.

According to Mammadov, Bakcell's 3G network possibilities are also being considered in order to connect departments to the corporate network. At present, about 50 post offices have been connected to the corporate network by means of a mobile network.
