Acute Viral Hepatitis A Cases in Ganja Doubled

Mammadov / The head of the Ganja City Hygiene and Epidemiology Centre, Almaz Tomiyeva, informed a Trend regional correspondent on 9 April that 29 people infected with hepatitis A had been registered in Ganja within the first quarter of 2007. The figure has doubled compared to the same period of 2006.

According to Tomiyeva, the total number of hepatitis A cases in 2006 was 120. A rapid spread of the disease has registered in the last three months. "At the end of last year 20-25 infected people registered monthly. However, only 9 people caught hepatitis A in March, 2007," Tomiyeva reported.

Tomiyeva noted that the control over the observance of sanitary regulations in education and health protection institutions of the city had increased in order to prevent the spread of the disease.
